Has an Injury Caused Your Vertigo?
Many of my clients write to me telling me they suffer from vertigo - the sensation of dizziness or whirling. They are very interested in knowing the causes and what treatments are available.

Many of my clients have shared that their vertigo was brought on by a closed head injury. This is a brain injury which is not caused by a penetrating object such as a knife or bullet. This is oftentimes the result of a car accident.
Between 25-60% of people who have had a closed-head injury have experienced vertigo - the feeling of spinning or whirling when standing still. This number is hard to pin down as the nature of this condition is elusive and oftentimes difficult to diagnose.
One reason is that with a closed-head injury, the patient oftentimes doesn’t associate it with vertigo because the injury which caused it was minor - he or she was able to “walk away” with little to no side effects.
Many don’t realize for weeks or even months that the brain injury was, in fact, serious.
One person told me that she had seen several doctors and been misdiagnosed several times before vertigo as a result of injury was determined.
After taking many medications and suffering from many side effects of those medications, she was finally asked about any recent head traumas and was finally diagnosed correctly.
I am not one to take medicine unless absolutely necessary. I believe in natural healing. This said, I also believe a proper diagnosis of a closed-head injury is best left only to doctors.
In our modern times, the equipment is now available to screen patients for risk of fall and is often low or even no cost.
Vertigo as a result of closed-head injury is the most treatable of the different types of vertigo.
